Happy Friday!

A few fun things for the weekend, have a good one!

3) The Jason Wu collection is coming to Target on February 5th, he designed the gown that Michelle Obama (the link will take you to a great photo gallery of gowns throughout history) wore to the inaugural ball.  4) Have you seen Midnight in Paris? Oh my goodness, it's absolutely wonderful and caught me totally by surprise. I am a huge Woody Allen fan as Manhattan and Annie Hall are two of my most favorite movies. If you haven't seen this one, I highly recommend it and the soundtrack is pretty great as well. Vanity Fair posted an article on some of the inspiration behind the movie, but if you haven't seen the film, be cautious before reading it because the article gives away some of the major plot points!

Moonrise Kingdom

Jessica Hische, the lovely, SUPER talented lady that I was lucky enough to have lunch with at the HOW Conference, tweeted earlier today that she worked on the lettering for the new Wes Anderson film, Moonrise Kingdom. Um, DREAM PROJECT! The movie doesn't come out until the end of May and I just don't know how I will wait that long. From the trailer, it looks to be quintessential Wes Anderson (complete with Bill Murray-yes!). Oh my goodness, I am so excited. I am a hard-core Wes Anderson fan, as you may know, The Royal Tenenbaums is one of my all-time favorite films. I may just have to have a mini Wes Anderson movie marathon to tide me over until this one is in theaters.

Lazy Sunday

I really wish this was the only thing I had on my agenda today. I can't wait for long, lazy summer Sunday afternoons. All I want do is sit by the lake, sip lemonade and read a good book.

The Art of Coraline.

Okay, so I know I am little bit obsessed, but this movie really inspired me and to me, it really was THAT good. Today a friend sent me a link to Drawn! and I found these fantastic images from Jon Klassen. He worked on visual development and drawings of sets and props for the film. I love seeing process-sketches, colors, type studies, etc. So it was very interesting to see these and compare them to the final product. Aren't they gorgeous? They have such a retro feel, I would totally love prints of all of them. Check out the whole set here.

Fantastic.

We finally got out to see Coraline tonight and I must say I was blown away. It was amazing. AMAZING. This was the first movie I have ever seen in 3D, and I was skeptical until the movie began. I jumped and grabbed M's arm after something appeared to fly at me from the screen, and from that point on I was sold. I really think that the 3D aspect enhanced the experience quite a bit and it will be interesting to see the movie again in plain old normal vision. This movie is so detailed and so beautiful. Seriously, I can't stop raving about it. Go see it now, please.

Redesigns & Weekend Recap.

So another weekend (sadly) comes to a close. Overall, it was pretty decent. I made some amazingly tasty lasagna and had a lovely Valentine's dinner eating said dish with my man and parents. I received some lovely flowers (pink Gerbera daisies, yellow Snap Dragons & Stargazer Lilies), stumbled upon an amazing noodle restaurant (a new favorite!) with a good friend while trying to find an AIGA website launch party. The party? Not the best, but great tunes and PBR tall boys made up for it. Good times were had by all.

I thought I would post some interesting designs I came across while surfing the internets this weekend.

Designer Spacesick of Ohio made these awesome vintage-looking book covers based on famous movies. I LOVE these! I think Ghost Dad and Mean Girls are two of my favorites. So fun. Check out the whole collection on his blog. What a great idea, they truly look vintage!

Another fun find I came across through Daily Discoveries on Design, are these Harry Potter cover redesigns by illustrator M.S. Corley. I am a HUGE HP fan and really love the artwork/covers of the original books, so I was completely curious when I found these because they are amazingly different. They have such a sophistication/Peguin-esque feel to them. Redesigns are always such a challenge (at least for me) because I always find it difficult to work on something that has already been created. I get stuck on the original and have trouble moving past ideas from the previous design.

I think I am liking the Half Blood Prince cover the best from this set, but the Philospher's Stone is a close second.
